Perlu sokongan padu

Esther did a wonderful job in the OIAM3 Top 4 concert last Friday. Bertemakan 'In Concert' beliau benar-benar menonjolkan ciri-ciri seorang penghibur dalam persembahan beliau melalui gabungan lagu-lagu One Night Only, Semua Jadi Satu dan Keeps Getting Better.

Thanks to http://www.elvissaladan.com/

Thanks to Mr. Butod (Julius Ebin) for sending me a copy of Elvis Saladan's debut album. I thought of waiting bulan lima nanti untuk beli album-album tempatan ni. Maklumlah kan most local albums will be released in May and you'll likely stumble upon vendors selling those albums at KDCA

Uiina...artis-artis top bah kan!

BRTM 09

Pertama kali berkesempatan menonton rancangan Bintang RTM semalam.

Persembahan pertama beliau menyanyikan lagu Broery Marantika just too awful. Maybe he scored high marks on his second song (I didn't watch his second performance in full cos I switched over channel to Tv3). I thought it's got to be Zek who should accompany Jo-Anna to the next round. So looks like all three contestants from Sabah, so far, get through to the next round (syabas!).

The first song, 'Pesan Mama'(a jazz number), was commendable cuma part music bridge dan 'scating' tu terlalu panjang dan nampak macam kosong (terdengar juga some flat note). It's good if she danced in synchronize with the dancers during this part tapi mengkali they don't have time for the choreography. The second song, Diana Ross's 'When You Tell Me That You Love Me' was worth the praise too (despite the key being slightly lowered) she managed the high big notes. But for sure. it's an eye feast watching someone pretty on TV, I was sort of in dilemma on which one to set in full level...my audio (ear) or my visual..:-).

Stacy Artis Baru Wanita Popular

Bintang RTM - bertuahnya kalau cantik

Selamat menonton and have an enjoyable weekend!

OIAM3 - Top 5

There were some unexpected and thrilling moments last night when Esther was in bottom three, together with Nine and Simon. Well, it happened to some great singers in the show before like Dayang Nurfaezah and Sarah. So the question now, will Esther join the great-voice-who-didn't-make-it club? Heaven knows. The episode also see Simon say farewell to the show.

Having watched the contestants performed songs recorded by Dato' Sheila Majid, I present here my ranking

1. Esther (Lagenda)- Wow, singing with only the piano, that was risky, wasn't it? but Esther managed to accomplish it. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if those who are really familiar with Lagenda get annoyed with both the vocal and musical arrangements from the beginning up to the minute 1:34 (in the video). Despite the dynamic flexibility in her voice, there were some anti-climax moments, when Esther kept delaying some words and postponing some final vowels. The coordination with the piano was slightly distracted too at some points (I wish I could mute the piano..hehe). However the second part, from minute 1:34 onwards, was pretty smooth. The vocal control was superb. All the elements of dynamic vocalism, legato, marcato, staccato, aspirato were presented. It's like listening to Anita Baker singing a Malay song..:). (but how I wish this song is presented in R & B, with fingers snapping and a saxophonist at the background...ala-ala iringan Dave kozz)

2. Amylea (Dia)- A reggae treatment for 'Dia' using a simple bench as props. Smooth sailing, not much of bumpy ride. Some dynamics flexibity as well in her vocal delivery, well done.

3. Tomok (Aku Cinta Pada Mu)- Same performance as in previous weeks. Hence my same comments, predictable, same gestures...etc plus a couple of intonation issue. On the good notes, it was energetic and entertaining.

4. Nine (Pengemis Muda)- Quite a lot of pitch issue this time.

5. Aweera (Antara Anyer dan Jakarta) - He hit the high note 'Jakarta' precisely and sometimes almost precisely, the rest of it was distracting not to mention singing with no feeling, emotions and soul.

OIAM3 - Lagenda by Esther

Tonight is the Top 5 concert of OIAM3 (but will begin only after one contestant voted out, who could he/she be? Hopefully not Esther). This time contestants were assigned to do songs recored by Dato' Sheila Majid. The sole (or maybe soul) contestant from Sabah, Esther picks the song 'Lagenda'. I'm not so sure if this is the best Sheila Majid's song for Esther. 'Sinaran' is not that bad, but probably somebody has already picked that song.

My problem with OIAM3 is contestants are given short minutes to perform, based on my own timing the lenght is 1:50 sec. Which means for six performances (including the swan song of the one voted out) the allocated time is only about 11 minute! or 18% of the whole one hour show! the rest of it or 82% of the program is for iklan, chatting etc.

And here's Esther's last week performance.

Much had been talked about these youngsters.

So apa kata kita saksikan persembahan mereka, di Pesta Kalimaran baru-baru ini, menyampaikan sebuah lagu Murut (lagu bahasa Murut diwajibkan untuk setiap peserta pertandingan Battle of The Band...I wonder siapa yang nyanyi lagu Butitin)

KE Next Top Entertainer - Road to final

American Idol - Farewell to Scott

My earlier expectation, he will be at least in top five.

My ranking for the the concert last night

1.Adam Lambert (Mad World). This guy could really project various sounds in his singing. Soft (as flute), hard (as thunder), screeching...you name it...dynamic! And he projected mostly soft sound in this song!

2.Matt Giraud (Part-Time Lover)- Wow! This is what I expect from someone who already had two full studio albums. I like the new arrangement. Great singing, despite some minor bumpy notes along the way.

3. Allison Iraheta (I Can't Make You Love Me) - A reminiscent of Kelly Clarkson? To some extent probably yes.

4. Danny Gokey (Stand By Me)- For a second I thought Gokey was born in the 60's, didn't expect though they accept recycle hit :-). Another CD quality voice delivery, but I really can't take that version of 'Stand By Me'.

5. Kris Allen (All She Wants To Do Is Dance) - Despite the noises from the judges, it's not that bad (bias kah ni? Hehe)

6. Anoop Desai (True Colors)- Good delivery, very emotional but slightly sharp on some part.

7. Scott MacIntyre (The Search is Over)- Vocal wise, probably his best, although the part right after the high, big note was slightly 'off-road'. The 'punk' role is not for him either (good try), the hand gestures remind me of William Hung.

8.Lil Rounds (What's Love Got To Do With It)- As a rule of thumb for lady aspirants, leave Tina Turner song alone..hehe, unless you have her sound effect.

Menuju bintang!

I missed the first show last night, how was it? :)

AF 7 - Transfomasi TNA Wrestling dalam AF7

AF is not about singing competition? So what is it then?! TNA Wrestling? Looks like it...AF7 had transformed itself to upacara berbalas-balas cakap, jelas menjelas. Saksikan aksi AF7 dalam video d bawah ini...Kevin Nash (the tall guy) mewakili tenaga pengajar, Kurt Angle mewakili pengkritik (Edry Hashim) dan AC diwakili Karen (the girl)...how I wish AF7 ada suara latar pengulas macam dalam video ni ("Oh man! Look at that! Tell'em Fati! Tell them!).

Anyhow as Faty said AF is not all about singing competition (yet berselindung disebalik konsert nyanyian). Untuk tidak mengelirukan orang ramai apa kata konsert mingguan AF diselang selikan tema, minggu ni pelajar menyanyi, minggu depan menari saja, minggu berikutnya mengacara, seterusnya berlawak and then berlakon (teater)...hah yang tu barulah transfomasi. Ataupun tiru saja rancangan Audition terbitan NTV7, peserta membuat persembahan 3 dalm 1

On to my carutan

Aishah – lagu kurang sesuai untuk Aishah, walau bagaimanapun nyanyian tidaklah teruk sangat. Cuma beliau kelihatan berhempas pulas melakonkan watak rock (mesti pegang-pegang rambut kan..hehe) siap dengan aksi macam ‘menurun’ bak kata Dato’ Siti. Not a very good performance

Qhaud (Taman Teman) – Sorry tidak termenonton persembahan pertama dia ni. Tapi kalau prsembahan kedua yang perlu dinilaikan, hancur! Lupa lirik, teragak-agak dsb.

Claudia – Good vocal control, banyak bunyi ditebalkan (gema, some people call ‘dibulatkan’). Lakonan pentas pun menjadi lah juga.

Aril – Persembahan suara kurang mantap di awal rangkap. Tapi apa boleh buat dia ni kan muda dan energetic, he can do both; singing and dancing at the same time.

Calculative (macam mengira step), berkaedah, kekok, teragak-agak. Suara not bad tapi agak monotonous dan kurang ‘trill’ (lenggokan).

Akim – Can’t figure out why most people puji persembahan dia ni. Bagi saya lebih mirip penari a go go. Very bad voice control. Getaran suara mengingatkan saya bunyi kambing kesejukan .

Isma – Satu lagi lakonan penyanyi rock yang agak menjadi. Suara juga ‘dilakonkan’ agar bebrunyi rock namun barisan yang berbunyi “oh yea...yeahh...gila kan kau” terlalu lembut (sepatutnya dikeraskan juga).

Rubisa (Tiada Lagi) – Lagu yang agak mudah. Malang sekali olahan Rubisa begitu mengikut lagu asal. I guess what he meant the song melody should be dynamic soft in the beginning and loud, dramatic, etc, towards the climax or the ending)

Hafiz (Cinta Ini) – A little bit monotonous in his voice projection. As if starting and driving a car right at gear four and five. Not a good performance by him compared to his previous weeks but still one of the best, that night, compared with the rest.

Sidi (Ku Milik Mu) – Ini ikut-ikut Adam Lambert dengan akustik band kah apa ni? Permulaan nyanyian bagus. Vokal Sidi macam sedikit tertekan (a very struggle voice) namun masih mampu melangsaikan beberapa big note.

Zizi (Aku Dah Bosan) – Persembahan keseluruhannya bagus, walaupun ada babak lakonan ala-ala bohsia membonceng motosikal. Seperti juga Rubisa, ulangan rangkap korus juga berbunyi serupa tiada olahan vokal yang mencabar, tarik-tarik suarakah (play around with the vocal a little bit towards the end)

My ranking: Claudia/Zizi/Hafiz/Isma/Rubisa/Sidi/Aril/ Aishah/Yazid/Akim/Qhaud

Penyingkran dua peserta Sabah serentak amatlah mendukacitakan (sekurang-kurangnya Zizi mampu mara), walaupun perit sebab inilah julung-julung kalinya tiada peserta Sabah beraksi di final kelak, tapi apa boleh buat mungkin inilah sebahagian daripada tranfomasi AF tahun ini...so terima sajalah hakikat.

OIAM 3 - Top 6

What a great show! Another round of good quality performances by OIAM3 contestants, bravo! Obviously one element missing that night is 'stage fright'. The contestants seemed very focus in their external goals or task at hand, for the benefit of the audience, instead of concerning so much on self-conscious like questioning "am I singing well?", "how do I look?" or "what are people thinking?" (you know...those concerns that just lead to stage fright). As speculated the immunity reward is destroyed. Not so sure if that's a good or bad news. And talking about bad news, Rizu's fans might really feel the pinch. The contestant, whom I imagined as the potential substitute of the legendary Sudirman, had been expelled.

On to my ranking

1. Esther (Nothing Sweet About Me)- Another entertaining up-tempo number. Her performance was more organized and well choreographed compared with "I Won't Go Home Without You". Her rhythmic steps, the 'gelek' and good voice control give her performance the extra mile. Singing with showmanship that's how I sum it up

2. Amylea (Somewhere Only We Know)- No glitch, good voice control and good stage presentation (conquering every corner of the stage).

3. Nine (Cinta Gila) - Probably his best vocal performance so far, good solid voice control and not much of pitch issue (unlike before). The big note at the end proved that he's a risk taker (as reward the camera focus at a pretty lady among the audience who's been gossiped as Nine's girlfriend ...:-))

4. Tomok (Umbrella) - Predictable. Applying the same formula, same movement, same gestures (the trademark 'body shaking' as if being electrocuted) and of course same roar from the audience (dia ni menang sorak dan menang banner).

5. Aweera (Di Penjara Janji)- Here comes the pejuang rock 80-an. No problem with the singing, very good shifting from low to high note, tapi drama yang tersirat dalam lagu tidak selari dengan ekspresi muka Aweera and it's a bit annoying to look at. It looks as if he's merely doing a sound check or mic test. And as usual the copycat issue.

6. Simon (Livin On A Prayer)- Normally those who take over the stage last will do something extraordinary (as we often see in the previous rounds). Since Simon was the last one, I had that expectation on him, but it turned out to be an anti-climax. Very karaoke-lounge sound

Pelawak berpotensi

Mmm...I thought I've met this guy some time in February. Very friendly and very confident. I didn't expect though, he's 19 years old, cos most guys his age are very reserve and talk to only those people they know, but this guy is very mature in character, he greets (smiles and raises his eyebrow) and talks to almost everyone he sees (including me whom he never met before)...hehe (friendly kan..kalah-kalah YB). Let's see how he performs if he's in Raja Lawak next season.

In the meantime, don't forget to vote for Esther (she's down to third place according to some informer)

American Idol - Top 9

Eliminated!

As expected? (Allison and Anoop were also in the bottom three)

This time the contestants were assigned to pick songs from list of the most popular downloads (how interesting, this should be the paid downloads). Having heard and watched their performances, I came up with my very own ranking

1. Kris Allen (Ain't No Sunshine)- Although his version of this song is not the best I've ever heard, he showed some serious stuff in his gig. (I guess most girls wish they were the microphone huh! Hehe!)

2. Adam Lambert (Play That Funky Music) - Again another smashing performance. But I prefer the rhythm and the guitar arrangement on the original version (it's more funky)

3. Anoop (Caught Up) - Not a bad rendition. I kinda like it

4. Danny Gokey (What Hurts The Most) - Suddenly Danny reminds me of either Taylor Hicks or Elliot Yamin (or the combination of these two). Having said that, I think he won't go far than these two guys (despite the awesome voice).

5. Matt Geraurd (You Found Me) - This guy already has two full studio albums, in case you don't know. Somehow I can tell by his classy acts on stage (but still subject to bad comments by the judges..hehe..poor fellow)

6. Allison (Don't Speak) - Err...I kinda compared her performance with Stacy :-). If only she kicks some pillows right to Simon face...

7. Lil Rounds (I Surrender) - Miss Rounds is getting pitchy and pitchy every week...what's going down dude?

8. Scott (Just the Way You Are) - Despite singing one of my all time favourite songs, I placed him in the bottom two. Now I realise how unpolished Scott's voice is (but he sounds a little bit like Barry Manillow, doesn't he?).

9. Megan (Turn Your Lights Down Low) - Maybe Kara was right, Megan will be in trouble. This lady sings as if she can't push or shift the high note using her head tone, it gets stuck between her chest and her neck.

Siaran langsung rancangan MSSS semalam menyaksikan Mohd Amer bin Saidin dinobatkan gelaran Malaysian Super Soccer Star dan bakal berlatih dengan Chelsea Youth Team. Wakil peserta dari KK, Sabri Sahar menduduki tempat kedua.

Dua orang finalis, Amer (kiri) dan Sabri (kanan).
Keputusan memihak kepada Amer

Carta Artis Sabah (CATS) Musim 2

Penganugerahan rancangan Carta Artis Sabah Musim 2, berlangsung di 1Borneo Ahad lepas (I thought it's on Saturday so I went to 1Borneo on Saturday..hehe)

See...si Ampal pun setuju tentang pemilihan tempat, as I said in my post for CATS musim 1, kurang sesuai diadakan di shopping complex (muism pertama berlangsung di Kompleks Asia City). Berprestij kah kalau buat di shopping complex? It becomes something not so exclusive.
