Terbaru dari Mia Palencia

Mia Palencia artis jazz dari Sabah telah melancarkan album studio beliau yang kedua bertajuk "Song From My Jiwang Kingdom" pada 13 November (yupp you read it right the Malay word "jiwang" is in that phrase). Sebelum ni beliau juga telah menghasilkan album berjudul "Finding My Way". Kalau ikutkan, dia ni kira pelopor female singer-songwriter type of artistes in the same league sama si Zee Avi dan Yuna, but I guess it's not too much to say she remains underground unlike the other two artistes.

Having heard all the tracks in her second album, dengan promosi yang betul, I hope dia ni bolehlah timbul dari underground and join Zee Avi and Yuna in the mainstreams. Lagipun dengar khabar one of her songs berjudul 'Call Waiting' (or was it Adam's Theme) sering berkumandang di Lite FM. Iringan muzik mostly guna akustikal gitar ja (ada jugalah elektrik gitar sikit-sikit) paling ketara tiada bunyi ketukan dram langsung (unlike her first album).

But I chose this one, called "Poor Mary" as my favourite sebab lagu inilah satu-satunya yang uptempo dan ada suara latar. Yang lain tu semua slow and mellow ala-ala Nora Jones, so tidak disarankan dengar masa driving!Wakakaka (saya ada pengalaman mencemaskan bah masa dengar lagu-lagu Nora Jones ni time driving...mengantuk..hampir-hampir accident)

So here's "Poor Mary"...hit it Sam!

I think Mia kena tambah suara latar ala-ala gospel dalam beberapa lagi lagu dia terutama lagu yang berjudul "How I Try".

Anyways there are two Malay songs, "Percaya" and "Biru". "Percaya" sounds very mainstream ala-ala Yuna dan Zee Avi. But I chose "Biru" dalam irama Blues to be featured here.

Check it out!

Still on Mia, a couple of months back adalah bapa kepada seorang kawan ni tanya samada si Mia ni ada kaitan sama Monika Ongkosing, he asked "anak si Monika kaitu?". I should have answered a straight 'No'

but then on second thought...

Vs

Datang gila-gila saya...saya replied "Ya...anak beranak durang tu!" wakaka..punya jahat..dasar pembuyuk!

But don't get it wrong, the reason he asked is because dia bilang suara durang sama-sama power!

Sayang Kinabalu the exotic version

...dan penyanyinya ialah tidak lain dan tidak bukan..jeng..jeng..jeng TAJON!..wakakak..actually the singer is Emmanuel Ombilod

This is what is written on his MySpace

Electro fusion rocker Emmanuel Ombilod, born on Sep,9, 1986. Originally from the eastcost of Malaysia, Borneo. His love for music began from a very young age. He's an audio engineer/music producer. Started his demo somewhere last year and now its done. Currently settled in Bangkok.

He didn't mention his exact hometown (Sandakan kali kan..bangsa Tagalog). I guess singing is not his real specialty, tapi boleh-bolehlah juga. Perhaps to some people, his version is a little bit annoying, but I truly love it...the acoustical arrangement, the fusion with the gong, flute and other traditional elements is simply wonderful. The audio mixing and sound quality...jangan cakaplah kan...standard habis, audio engineer lah katakan dia ni.

Ko baliiiik lah bah sini Sabah...Ombilod OOii! Kami sangat-sangat
perlukan khidmat sound engineer ko tu..huwaaa!"
