The Roots Tangle With Controversy....???

Well…I've been waiting for ATAMA's My Tribal Roots to conquer radio stations all over the nations but it looks like something is blocking its way. Watching Atama making appearances here and there I never thought something is going wrong until an article appears on paper recently reporting a dispute between him and the party who claims ownership of John Gaisah’s songs. I guess this is probably one reason why I still haven't heard songs from this album played over XFresh.FM (Atama once mentioned that fans will soon be able to listen My Tribal Roots over the made-for-teen radio station). I don't feel like debating whose right and whose wrong but just feel bad that this thing happens cos it really hinders the promotional effort of ATAMA’s brilliant debut album. I hope both parties can reach a solution as soon as possible and really wish My Tribal Roots to penetrate Malaysian market to be enjoyed by all Malaysians. I wanted to play my favourite “Taragang Rasuk” here over my own FM.… tapi nanti aku pula yang kena saman…ahakss!! Anyway for those who haven't got the opportunity listening to ATAMA’s song I choosed the track called “Can’t Stop the Sumazau” (Track 6) for your listening pleasure. It's a fun catchy tune with his father's voice ( Ambrose Mudi) singing the part “just raise your hands…fling your feet we’ll show you how…”. If u listen to the lyrics carefully it's actually a soft bullet shooting at the other party! And talking abt the lyrics...errrr...I guess it's the first time I hear such words like "ass" and motherf..*toot* included in a locally made lyrics....made in Sabah pula tu..!!...yaaaa...ampun!). Anyway if you want to know more about Atama and his brilliant album! just click here....

dbos, nobody will saman you.. because till now this issue is just a public issue..its just in the media..why gotta be guntalou?.. be katama boh!

THERE'S NO LEGAL ISSUE TILL NOW.. its a simple case of a greedy label owner asking for a HANDOUT from Atama's album sales after the success la.. the real owner is still John Gaisah & Family.. this can never be desputed..1st royaltie$ to the family has been paid by Atama oredi.. it's their intellectual property right..

if the label can prove that JOHN GAISAH had given all his INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY [means all his music works] to the label,in writing, then that label should have long ago sued Atama right? I think the only thing that the label have is the rights to reduplicate the song coz i sense that they only OWN a master copy from the original company Seh Huat.

[TARAGANG RASUK was first recorded by SEH HUAT Sdn Bhd which now is deceased coz they got caught by the piracy act].. and what if it was a stolen copy from Seh Huat.. we never know maaa...

If Sabah Records got the balls.. Then sue Atama la.. why gotta be a bitch about it.. why gotta be guntalou bah kan? i said it earlier... they're GREEDY togonok blood suckers...
Atama ain't shady tau.. He studied this recording business la.. i don't think he will bow down to these pirates over the media reports.. he's playing it the rap way..

you all judge for yourself la ok.. sebab this is the music world.. remember Eminem's controversy? How about Bob Marley? kalau kita boleh understand deorang punya message behind their music.. why not try to understand Atama's music too?

My Tribal Roots is a dashat album if only you can see it thru rebel eyes.. to me, what i see so far in the label issue is that.., Atama is revolutioning the awareness of our music copyright and artist royalty by dissing those labels in his rhymes.. he has already ignited a war of words in his music [mind you, that he's a rapper/poet]against his enemies with 'Can't Stop The Sumazau'... a deep blow to those labels.. maybe Atama's label-enemy should reply in a rap track la.. he also openly says that there will be more rappers who will come out from the NBC that will battle these label pirates habis-habisan.. wait and see.. Atama is out to 'pangait' the heads of his enmies and hang em' on his roof poles..

p/s
it's the dawn of a new revolution.. no more do sabahan musicians have to be in the dark la.. no more bah.. learn from Atama.. our warrior rapper..

FYI, i'm Atama aka Andrew Mudi's close buddy from when we first started DJing in KK and KL.. i'm Old Skool' and so is he..i'm taking the time to relate my views coz we're long time dawgs man.. Atama, i got your back.. remember dat..woof woof!!

Quotes by Atama-
"How many talents have been ripped off, singers that's been cheated off, their hard work making music but never get a cent off the album sales, royalties of the retail, their cassette got pirated, mr. protest can go to hell" - C.S.T.S

"Soon there will be thousand MC rappers like me, who be representing the NBC" - C.S.T.S

NBC stands for North Borneo Crew- Atama's hip hop family..

Hi Ranggit!

dbos, nobody will saman you.. because till now this issue is just a public issue..its just in the media..why gotta be guntalou?.. be katama boh!

LOL!...I won't be surprise ATAMA's next single will be called "Don't Be A Guntalou!"..hehehe...

Thank you (1000x) for giving me the first hand information..this is the kind of info I wanna know...cos as a silent supporter I only read what appears on paper. It's so touching to hear Atama's paid some royalties to the late Gaisah's family....(wiping tears!)

I have no doubt about it...I can feel that in his songs..I made some amendment to my entry saying the lyrics actually is a soft bullet shooting at the label-enemy. I tell u what..for once I never imagined this type of album will be born in Sabah...it's a revolutinary...a breakthrough...that's y I stood by hours b4 the stall opened at Hongkod on the 30th May just to get a copy...n was told I was the first buyer! I made noize to some frens in KL n S'pore about this album n told them to stick to Xfresh.fm...but it never happens (or does it?)...anyway I ended up buying xtra CDs for frens in KL!

We, a bunch of strong supporters of Sabahan talents really wanna see this album receive a critically acclaim by all parties throughout the nations...and be given due considerations for music awards candidacy and so forth! That's our big hope...
