A day with the CM

I happened to be at this function held at Pacific Sutera Hotel yesterday (only after being reminded many times). It’s all about the agreement signing ceremony between POIC and a company from Korea to set up an environmental friendly biomass power plant supplying energy to the POIC industrial communities in Lahad Datu.

Well guarded by FBI agents...:)

Anyways what I’d like to highlight here is the speech deliveries by the speakers during the function.

First up is Dr. Pang the CEO of POIC Sabah.

A very well-delivered speech. Crisp and clear!. You can see the audience sit still listening attentively to every word he has to say. My rating 4.5/5! (After all nothing is perfect kan!..:))

Next is Datuk Ewon Ebin the Chairman of POIC Sabah.

Right after delivering the first paragraph of his speech, people began loosening up themselves. From sitting upright to slouch position (boring ler tu!). At this juncture the couple sitting next to my left could hardly maintain their whisper, talking to each other in Chinese. If we were to scale our so-called ‘listening concentration’ from 1 to 100, I probably set mine to 80 just to capture what Datuk Ewon was saying. With that I give him a rate of 2.5/5

Next up is the honourable guest, our chief minister.

(Aiyoyo! Don’t understand at all oh! how like this? Chief minister some more!). I set my listening concentration to maximum 100, yet I can only capture the words Sabah, POIC, Lahad Datu, hotel, shopping complex…and God knows what! The audience started to look left and right, talking to their friends and some even looking to the direction of the foyer, where foods are being served, probably can’t wait for the ‘makan time’! The couple next to me eventually lost their respect and etiquette being at such a formal function. They changed their chatting tone from whisper to ‘head tone’ much to the annoyance of some audience. My markah kasihan to our dearly CM… 1/5!

Finally (a sigh of relief) Mr. Jung (the CEO of the Korean Company).

He almost had Mr.Pang’s speech delivery quality except that I’ve to struggle a bit to capture his pronunciations. ‘World's’ sounds like ‘worse’. Rating? Kasihlah 3/5

And ‘seal with a smile’.... cause soon it all means cash with capital ‘C’ ...:D

...and the MC for the occasion.

At one stage she made a silly mistake by addressing Datuk Musa Aman as the Chief Minister of Sabah SDN. BHD (LOL!). I can’t blame her for saying that since she’s been uttering the words ‘SDN. BHD’ all through the event. She regretfully apologised. Well let’s put it this way, for such a serious and sombre function, her blunder is a blessing! It’s livened up the atmosphere, even the CM was grinning! So I presumed it’s just part of a joke to entertain the audience. No needs to get embarrassed.

After ‘makan time’ I really need to break myself free from the too formal ambience and rushed to the Pan Pac hotel lobby only to be greeted by the shoe-string budget of its winter wonderland…mmm..but not that bad...:=).

Oh by the way the food was so yummy to the extent I’ve forgotten to take photo during the reception (what to do...busy makan bah!)
