Sabah TV soon?

RTM To Introduce Regional TV

KUCHING, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will introduce regional television networks with the implementation of digital broadcasting in three years' time, said Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said as the digital broadcasting system would have 20 channels, each region, including Sabah and Sarawak, would have its own network.

"It is not impossible for us to have Sarawak TV, Sabah TV and other regional TVs. Sarawak TV can have its own news bulletin and Dayak music programmes," he said when officiating at the Dayak Music Award 2008 presentation, here Saturday night.

Ahmad Shabery urged RTM employees at the regional stations to make the necessary preparations and improve their capabilities in producing more informative news from the districts.

"Regional TV can be as powerful as national TV. Viewers are more interested to know about local issues than national or international issues.

"As such, we have to build strong local content and not be enamoured by television productions from China, Latin America or Indonesia.

"We have to be prepared to carry more news from the districts in the proposed regional TVs," he said.

P/s: This is Indeed another good news. Hopefully it will open more opportunities for local (Sabah) production houses to provide local contents...:)
