Live From Hollywood

Malapetaka gempabumi dan tsunami, nampaknya, telah melanda pentas American Idol musim kesebelas sebentar tadi.

Mula-mula gempabumi bermagnitude 8.0 SR menggegar pentas AI (jam 9 pagi tadi waktu Malaysia) bila Joshua Ledet dan Jessica Sanchez - dua peserta yang dianggap memiliki suara 'acrobatic' - diletakkan bersama-sama dengan Elise Testone - peserta yang sering mendapat undian rendah - dalam kelompok tiga tercorot. Tsunami muncul sejurus kemudian bila Jessica Sanchez (peserta yang memiliki wajah seperti pelajar perempuan Tingkatan 4 di mana-mana sekolah di Sabah) diumumkan tersingkir. Kejutan begitu terserlah pada wajah awet muda Akak Jeniffer Lopez, tatkala keputusan diumumkan, sehingga mendedahkan ketiaknya untuk tontonon seluruh dunia (licin ok!). Enggan menerima keputusan warga Amerika, Akak Jeniffer Lopez - sambil berlenggang maut - terus meluru ke pentas seraya merebut mikrofon dari genggaman Jessica Sanchez yang sedang melakukan "singing for her dear life". "Pergi duduk...this is crazy!" jerit selebriti berstatus janda tiga kali setengah itu. Suasana dewan pun menjadi kecoh, riuh, gempak, hangat (persis suasana rancangan gusti WWE Wrestling) bila juri mengambil keputusan, buat kali pertama dan terakhir, mengguna kuasa sakti mereka menyelamat peserta tersingkir....*fuhh*

Saksikan...

'Aku Ingin Dilubangi'

Salah satu lagu yang tersenarai hitam, but I found nothing wrong with this song. Cun pula video dia ni

P/s: Masa pembukaan dan penutupan Sukan SEA baru-baru ni saya tertunggu-tunggu juga persembahan lagu-lagu dangdut dari artis-artis dangdut sensasi Indonesia (maklumlah kan "ingat Indonesia..ingat dangdut"). Tapi nampak gaya macam kena tapuk pula durang...hehe(motif?).

Fenomena Lagu Terburuk

"tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards"

Jumlah ditontoni = 67,239,376 (juta ok!)
Jumlah komen = 1,185,215 (juta juga)
Jumlah tidak gemar = 1,293,993 (of course juta)
Jumlah gemari = 157,192 (sikitnya..hehe)

Walaupun dikatakan terburuk, tapi bila melihat statistik di atas yang pasti jutaan telah memberi perhatian kepada video ini (don't you want that?) dan impaknya? Lagu ni berjaya mencecah no 19 di Carta iTune dan penyanyinya pula menerima undangan muncul dalam rancangan-rancangan bual bicara TV (what an exposure!). Popular for a wrong reason kah apa ni?

Saksikan ja lagu dari penyanyi yang berangan mo jadi pop-star walaupun suara dia ni hanya layak nyanyi lagu 'Ba..ba..black sheep..have you any wools' :=)

The rest, macam melodi kira not bad juga. Technical wise lagilah awesome (biasalah kan standard durang).

dBOS: Macam mo buat pula lirik lagu..."6 am, I wake up, go to bathroom...brush my teeth, my phone rings..."*LOL*

The Twins Story

Probably the famous twins in Sabah :=)

I also had my share of embarrassing moments with twins. I greeted a person whom I thought I knew very well. I chatted with him about some past events and asked him the whereabouts of some of his friends. He looked confuse but remained friendly. Once he dropped the bomb that I was actually referring to his twin brother, I thought of throwing myself at the speeding cars on the road *LOL* (we were chatting by the highway).

Still about twins, Ricky Martin revealed exclusively his twin sons (Matteo and Valentino) to the mass for the first time during an interview with Oprah on Nov 2 (like three days ago but will probably arrive on our local TV stations three months from now). His date with Oprah was his very first interview since he made an official announcement in March that he is..aaa...err...not heterosexual (go find the meaning in the dictionary). The interview was also in conjunction with the launch of his book (autobiography) entitled "Me".

Wow...the ladies are still screaming just like before huh (are they paid to scream or what?), and Mr Martin truly enjoys playing mommy doesn't he.

Awesome show indeed. Part 1 to 6 (including the world premiere of a new single "The Best Thing About Me Is You", a duet with Joss Stone) are still available on YouTube (hurry, before Oprah ordered them to be removed...hehe).

If you think Mr Martin has lost his charms, sexiness, macho-ness all because of his honest confession and you can't stand all the fake in his video "She Bangs"...

...don't worry help is on its way, and he's equally 'hunk' or was it spelled as 'hunG'?

Video antarabangsa

Video-video antarabngsa yang menawan hati pakcik.

Helping Haiti

My comment, hmmm...boleh lah. I don't quite fancy that song.

Beauty in The World - Macy Gray

This is suppose to be one of the songs and videos dedicated to the World Cup this year, but not given due publicity (because of potraying feminism?). Mengkali juga kan, hilang ke-machoan sukan bolasepak :=).

No matter what other people say about Macy Gray's voice (from a drunkard lady to Marge Simpson's voice) it always fascinates me. It's very distinctive, dengar ja you know it belongs to Macy Gray.

Handphone Telah Ujud Dalam Tahun 1928?

This guy bernama George Clarke meminta bantuan seluruh dunia mengenalpasti apa sebenar yang dia nampak dalam satu scene video yang dia miliki. Alkisahnya dia beli pakej video Charlie Chaplin berjudul The Circus. Dalam pakej video tu ada beberapa segmen, antaranya segmen 'behind the scene' pembikinan filem The Circus. Semasa majlis pelancaran inilah satu scene pelik ujud, di mana seorang perempuan tua didapati sedang berjalan sambil memegang sesuatu macam handphone (si George Clarke suspek perempuan tua tu sebenarnya lelaki berpakaian perempuan). Footage video ni sedang hangat diperdebatkan di US sekarang. Ada teori bilang perempuan tu 'time traveler'.

And then dia suka bercakap sorang-sorang. Masa video tu diambil dia sedang feeling-feeling konon berbual dengan seseorang melalui telefon (she used some object as a phone). Kamera tu fokus dia sebab mungkin dia ni orang gila yang kira popular di street tu (China Street Hollywood). The fact that other passers by did not bother about her, implies that she could be a familiar face in the neighbourhood (the crowds already familiar with her character, attitude and so on, so why bother, just leave her alone). Perhaps the cameraman said "there she goes again with her antiques, who is she talking to this time?". Ada kemungkinan juga teori si George Clarke, that person is a male, betul.

Time saya kicik2 dulu (belum ujud handphone ni) kami selalu main tembak-tembak ala-ala filem Star Trek kunun (biasalahkan budak-budak). Siap cakap, lipat terus masuk poket...tercangang bah kawan2 nampak...hebatkan imaginasi aku...hehehe.

Update: Ada teori terbaru bilang tu ppuan tua guna alat bantuan pendengaran yg memang telah ujud time tu dan memang bersaiz besar (I think this one makes sense)

Another local CD Movie entitled Mayan Talun is on sale now.

American Idol Season 9

Let's take a look at Season 9 Top 24 show

Male

It's not difficult to split the good and bad performers among the male contestants. On top of the list should be Casey, Andrew and the 16-year-old Aaron. The rest, mmm...let me see, from best to worst...Joe Munoz (voice trembling on some parts), Michael Lynche ''Big Mike'' (vocal tone just ok and mostly singing in tune), John Park (I know it's kinda boring but he nails most of the tune), Lee Dewyze (great vocal tone but noted like 5, 6 off pitch tune), Todrick Hall (over creative?), Alex Lambert (not a bad vocal tone but too robotic, too nervous...I thought he's going to pee on his pants), Tim Urban (his Jonas Brothers look probably will save him from being voted out), Tyler Grady (apart of his retro fashion and attitude I don't see anything special), Jermaine Sellers (despite placing him last I really hope he'll proceed because he's the only belter who can reach high notes among the males)

Female

Having seen their performances, here's my personal ranking..

1. Didi Benami – The Way I Am (Ingrid Michaelson)...awesome! Surprisingly she received not so good comments from the four judges (maybe they expected more from her). Her delivery last night reminds me of Megan Joy (last season's Top 12). Is she going to be like Megan as well (shining only in the beginning of the show and moving downhill as the show progresses). How I wish Didi sings Zee Avi's Bitter Heart in one of her performances.

2. Lilly Scott – Fixing a Hole (The Beatles): A former busker, I thought of tying her up with Didi at No.1 but I detected some minor off pitch at the beginning of her performance

3. Siobhan Magnus – Wicked Game (Chris Isaak): Maybe Simon is correct when speculating this girl as the darkhorse in the competition (funny though she doesn't understand what 'darkhorse' means...haha). You'll never know what a glass blower can do..hehe (she used to work in glass making factory). So kalau kamu mau kasih panjang nafas kamu (having a good pipe orang putih bilang)...rajin-rajinlah meniup...tiup belon kah (serious...this is indeed one good tip)

4. Paige Miles –All Right Now (Free)...I guess the best among the three ebonies.

5. Michelle Delamor – Fallin (Alicia Keys)..the judges maybe right, this song is too small for her, the important thing is she did it in tune.

6. Crystal Bowersox – Hand in My Pocket (Alanis Morissette). Unlike Lilly Scott, no mention if Crystal once a busker too although she really looks like one (the glamorised version). I'm not sure about this contestant. Suara biasa-biasa ja but the guitar and harmonica make her look special, I mean what if the guitar and harmonica are taken away from her? Are we expecting her to perform with those instruments every week?

7. Katelyn Epperly – Oh! Darling (The Beatles)...Pink like voice, it's just that the key is a little too low, I prefer if it's raised a little but probably she's playing safe.

8. Katie Stevens – Feeling Good (Michael Bublé)...normally they place the most outstanding at the end of the show (save the best for last) but not in this case, a disappointed final contestant but she sings in tune (don't you think she has Siti Nurhaliza's smile?)

9. Ashley Rodriguez – Happy (Leona Lewis)..this girl was the early favourite to most and given frequent airtime on TV but I guess with her performance last night she had disappointed many viewers, including myself. Tapi tetap minat coz she looks like the hot Eva Longoria :=).

10. Haley Vaughn – I Wanna Hold Your Hand (The Beatles)...is she influenced by Dolly Parton singing style? To some eyes (including Simon) she's special and unique cos she's a young black girl who prefers white-dominant country song. Other than that..naaah!

11. Janelle Wheeler – What About Love (Heart)...she sounds like a real amature on the chorus parts.

12. Lacey Brown – Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)...if I were to be shown for the first time to million viewers in an important contest like American Idol, I will choose a song that really shows my vocal range (from low to high), but this girl is doing the opposite, she sang a 'sleepy' song as if she's already in 7th or 8th week of the competition? :(

The New Version of "We Are The World"

The world famous charity song "We Are The World", written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and was recently revamped. The new version was premiered in the US yesterday and subsequently to the world today (Saturday). But instead of "USA For Africa" the tagline this time is "USA For Haiti".

How does it differ from the old version?

Woww...Michael Jackson still appears and the choir is always the hair-raising part. It's fun watching Lionel Ritchie guides Celine Dion at minute 3:53 :=). I guess the new features include some rappings and a T-Pain (robotic) kinda voice. But I'm a little bit annoyed by the Haitian singer (what was his name?)...errr..that turkey like sounds he made, is too much for my ear...hehe.

Boyzone's Stpehen Gately dies

*Sigh* looks like another star unvoluntarily joins the list of demise celebrities this year.

Stephen Gately, the member of the defunct group Boyzone has been found dead on Saturday while on holiday in Majorca. He's only 33. It's a bit shuddering though to learn how he died....it happened while he's asleep! I hope there are other reasons leading to the tragic incidence, otherwise don't you feel like thinking twice of going to bed? :-)..

Talking about Boyzone, it's hard to imagine that this is indeed a five-member boyband when they feature only one (or sometimes two) lead vocalist. The rest merely acts as backup vocalists/dancers while exhibiting their handsome faces. Despite not being a big fan of this group, some of their songs like-"No Matter What" and "Everyday I Love You" remain as favourites.

Filem penyakit ala H1N1

Filem "Carriers" ni sedang ditayangkan di US. Tapi kalau kita perhatikan ianya berkisar kepada ramalan kejadian yang kononnya berlaku ditahun 2008, I think the story is inspired by the bird flu event in 2007 (wabak ditunjuk berasal dari Asia).

Michael Jackson dies at age 50

I received a stream of sms this morning informing me about this news, some asked "Michael Jackson matikah?" and some simply said "The King of Pop MJ had gone"...gosh this is shocking!

AP - Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation

And another one which happened on the same day

'Charlie's Angel' Farrah Fawcett dies at 62

Fawcett, 62, died Thursday morning at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, nearly three years after being diagnosed with anal cancer. Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who returned to her side when she became ill, was with her.

American Idol 8: Kris vs Adam grand finale

Mungkin sekarang ini Americans telahpun selesai mengundi (they are only given two hours to vote) dan keputusannya akan diketahui esok yang mana kita boleh ikuti secara langsung pagi esok menerusi saluran Star World.

Musim ini kedua-dua peserta akhir dikehendaki menyanyikan sebuah lagu hasil ciptaan Kara DiGuordi berjudul No Boundaries

Adam's version

Kris' version

I think it's a little too big of a song for Kris. He sang it up to his top range.

On paper Adam should win and he's my ultimate choice but the words circling around say that Danny Gokey's (million) voters will go for Kris. Danny's pastor has even put down a notice on his Twitter urging his supporters to vote for a believer (Kris). With that I'm all set to hear Ryan declares Kris as the winner (with my ears plugged) :-).

American Idol 8: Kris vs Adam in the final

*LOL* I'm delaying some outdoor works this morning just to follow up the minute by minute live coverage of AI8, by some hard working bloggers in the US. If what's been covered is true (the show is from 9 - 10 am) we'll see Adam vs Kris in the final, exactly what I've been wishing for...good choice Americans! (and sorry to Danny's fans!)

But honestly, between Kris and Danny, it doesn't matter to me who'll be in the final so long that Adam is in :)

American Idol - Farewell to Scott

My earlier expectation, he will be at least in top five.

My ranking for the the concert last night

1.Adam Lambert (Mad World). This guy could really project various sounds in his singing. Soft (as flute), hard (as thunder), screeching...you name it...dynamic! And he projected mostly soft sound in this song!

2.Matt Giraud (Part-Time Lover)- Wow! This is what I expect from someone who already had two full studio albums. I like the new arrangement. Great singing, despite some minor bumpy notes along the way.

3. Allison Iraheta (I Can't Make You Love Me) - A reminiscent of Kelly Clarkson? To some extent probably yes.

4. Danny Gokey (Stand By Me)- For a second I thought Gokey was born in the 60's, didn't expect though they accept recycle hit :-). Another CD quality voice delivery, but I really can't take that version of 'Stand By Me'.

5. Kris Allen (All She Wants To Do Is Dance) - Despite the noises from the judges, it's not that bad (bias kah ni? Hehe)

6. Anoop Desai (True Colors)- Good delivery, very emotional but slightly sharp on some part.

7. Scott MacIntyre (The Search is Over)- Vocal wise, probably his best, although the part right after the high, big note was slightly 'off-road'. The 'punk' role is not for him either (good try), the hand gestures remind me of William Hung.

8.Lil Rounds (What's Love Got To Do With It)- As a rule of thumb for lady aspirants, leave Tina Turner song alone..hehe, unless you have her sound effect.

2 Apr 2009

American Idol - Top 9

Eliminated!

As expected? (Allison and Anoop were also in the bottom three)

This time the contestants were assigned to pick songs from list of the most popular downloads (how interesting, this should be the paid downloads). Having heard and watched their performances, I came up with my very own ranking

1. Kris Allen (Ain't No Sunshine)- Although his version of this song is not the best I've ever heard, he showed some serious stuff in his gig. (I guess most girls wish they were the microphone huh! Hehe!)

2. Adam Lambert (Play That Funky Music) - Again another smashing performance. But I prefer the rhythm and the guitar arrangement on the original version (it's more funky)

3. Anoop (Caught Up) - Not a bad rendition. I kinda like it

4. Danny Gokey (What Hurts The Most) - Suddenly Danny reminds me of either Taylor Hicks or Elliot Yamin (or the combination of these two). Having said that, I think he won't go far than these two guys (despite the awesome voice).

5. Matt Geraurd (You Found Me) - This guy already has two full studio albums, in case you don't know. Somehow I can tell by his classy acts on stage (but still subject to bad comments by the judges..hehe..poor fellow)

6. Allison (Don't Speak) - Err...I kinda compared her performance with Stacy :-). If only she kicks some pillows right to Simon face...

7. Lil Rounds (I Surrender) - Miss Rounds is getting pitchy and pitchy every week...what's going down dude?

8. Scott (Just the Way You Are) - Despite singing one of my all time favourite songs, I placed him in the bottom two. Now I realise how unpolished Scott's voice is (but he sounds a little bit like Barry Manillow, doesn't he?).

9. Megan (Turn Your Lights Down Low) - Maybe Kara was right, Megan will be in trouble. This lady sings as if she can't push or shift the high note using her head tone, it gets stuck between her chest and her neck.

American Idol - Top 10 concert

ELIMINATED!

This week’s theme is songs from Motown catalog. Some contestants performed great, a couple of good ones and one and two unexpectedly bad. One of those who was in the ‘unexpectedly bad’ category was Lil Rounds. It’s supposed to be her week unfortunately she didn’t deliver her song as I anticipated; probably it’s the wrong song choice.

My ranking

1. Adam Lambert (I’m speechless! Not to mention he looked like Kurt Russel),
2. Matt Giraud
3. Danny Gokey
4. Kris Allen
5. Anoop
6. Allison
7. Lil Rounds
8. Micahel Sarver
9. Scott McIntyre
10. Megan Joy

But just forget about the concert last night cause the results are in, here they are

Bottom three

Scott McIntyre, Matt Giraud and Michael Sarver

Eliminated?? Jeng..jeng..

MICHAEL SARVER!

Making fun on Idol

I never miss watching Jimmy Kimmel Live show when it was regularly aired at 7:30 pm on Star World. But since it had been shifted to 11.30 pm and sometimes 12:00 am, I guess I've to choose my bed time over Mr. Kimmel's show. Here are just some of the funs he poke on American Idol (very funny).

There was another joke when Mr. Kimmel said "they have a blind contestant this season" and he went on to show a clip with Scott look-alike singing facing the back stage instead of the audience...*LOL*...cruel but amusing (I couldn't find the video on Youtube)

And the joke he poke on the TV series "Lost" are even more hilarious.

American Idol - Top 11 and results

Eliminated !

“Take me home country road to the place I belong..” tu dia my favourite country song a.k.a tema konsert AI minggu ini. It's the 'Grand Ole Opry Week'..yeeha!

Michael – He gave justice to the genre of music, it's very country. I was more focussed at the harmonica player. Is he out this week? I want him to but since he sang a real country song it's just not fair if it happens.

Allison – Great job. I thought of saying “this is one contender to watch out for” silap-silap boleh jadi juara (remember Jordin Spark?) but on second thought, macam berlambak sudah di pasaran suara dan style dia ni.

Kris – Heartfelt, I was unable to detect the off pitch issue as Paula brought up. Bila saya tanya “handsome macam tu pun ko tutup mata?”. Saya ndak sanggup tinguk bah nanti termimpi-mimpi dia masa tidur. *LOL*

Lil Round – Didn’t she say she wanna get rid off the R & B in herself, for the sake of giving honour and respect to country song? (Ala-ala menghormati lagu tradisi Amerika)? But the judges seemed unable to accept her reason. Yupp..I agree with Paula’s song choice though “Stand By Your Man”.

Adam – Ouch! not sure if it’s fair to the song but undeniably great vocal performance (a CD quality voice...makan hati betul dengar vocal performance dia ni). Are you as confused as Kara? *LOL*.

Scott – Just an OK performance. I thought of disagree with Paula, but hey sometimes you have to motivate the disables that they’re indeed on par with the normal people.

Alexis – Her facial expression was somewhat emotional but not her vocal and not perfectly on tune too.

Danny – The early verses seemed too low for his tone and he struggled to control the low notes. Anyway he blast it off halfway right to the end.

Anoop –The third note in “Maybe I..” was slightly off. But overall Anoop Dogg (Doug? Dawg? Whatever!) is back..

Megan – “the Megan way” as Randy and Kara like to put it, is just a proof that this lady really has her own style. Her singing last night reminds me of the jazz numbers way back in the 40’s. This lady is shaping up, err..I'm not talking about the physical aspect.

Matt – Just to be fair to Scott, Matt should sing without the piano too next week (only if he’s still around). Good performance though, silky husky voice.

My choice

Kris, Megan, Allison, Anoop, Danny, Lil, Adam, Alexis, Scott, Steve

And the verdict?

Bottom 3

Allison, Alexis and Michael

Eliminated?

ALEXIS! (arrgh)

Ginger cari peluang

Eliminated!

Looks like Americans had voted out contestants with names starting with the letter 'J', Jasmine and Jorge (poor guy, I consider him 'kalis sumbang')

AI8 - Michael Jackson menonton?

Hehe...bila Kara cakap "I hope Michael Jackson is watching now" semasa memberi komen kepada Adam Lambert saya pun bertanya "menonton kah si Michael tu?" Kalau dia menonton pun mengkali dia geleng-geleng kepala..."don't become like me kids". When I was very little I thought of no other singers but MJ. I learnt his 'Rockin Robin' and 'ABC' when I was like 7 or 8 (hehe). The person whom I think is born to be. a real singer is reported to stage his farewell concerts this year. How sad! No matter what happened and what's been reported in the media he's still on top of my list of favourite singers :). And AI has every reason to have MJ's week. This has to be my favourite AI concert and out of all the songs only Scott's number I wasn't familiar with. It looks as if the songs are made for the contestants, except for one and two perhaps, and my ranking...

Megan Joy Corkrey - Rockin Robin (surprise!...just love it)
Adam Lambert - Black or White (I hope Americans are in tune with the judges)
Danny Gokey - Pretty young Thing (black voice trapped in a white man's body...love it)
Alexis Grace - Dirty Diana
Allison Iraheta - Give In To Me
Lil Rounds - The Way You Make Me Feel
Jorge Nunez - Never Can Say Goodbye (good singing but the arrangement was lousy. He should do One Day In Your Life)
Kris Allen - Remember The Time (few apparent off notes at the end)
Matt Giraud - Human Nature
Michael Sarver - You Are Not Alone
Scott MacIntyre - Keep The Faith
Anoop Desai - Beat It (R & B and soul guy suddenly pick a rock song?..mmm..Never Can Say Goodbye in original arrangement should suit him. Pelajar peringkat master ni nampak gaya kurang bijak pilih lagu MJ. Jadi pula versi Weird Al-Yankovic "Eat It")
Jasmine Murray - I'll Be There (the most unsoulful ebony contestant I've ever heard...lagu pun khas untuk remaja-remaja berangan popular yang mengenali MJ through other singer)

Unfortunately no one sings this song, maybe it's all about a rat named Ben (Anoop should sing it..or )
